movie to rent this week

if you haven't seen "derailed," you need to go rent it today. first, it's a great cast: clive owen, jennifer anniston and vincent cassel. x-zhibit and rza back them up with well-acted (if not type-cast) supporting roles. the storyline is well thought out with looming suspense and unexpected twists. yet, it leaves no loose ends or unanswered motives.
owen, having luckily avoided being cast as the next 007, proves that the character actor still lives, not a small man by any means and capable of roles as a ruthless bank robber ("inside man"), a celtic king ("king arthur") or a vengeful ex-gangster ("i'll sleep when i'm dead"), owen convinces the viewer that he is a weak, sniveling man with a broken spirit. cassel turns away from the prettyboy image of "ocean's twelve" to become a seedy criminal mastermind.
unlike many stories wherein the protaganist has an unexplained change of character, the script and owen's skill convince the viewer that the dynamic metamorphasis is not only justified but completely plausible.
all said and done, i loved this film.
