my favourite word

entropy
- the irreversible tendency of a system, including the universe, toward increasing disorder; also, the final state predictable from this.
- from the greek <en-> in + <trepein> to turn.
(funk & wagnalls, standard desk dictionary, 1966)

Not a very auspicious word, eh? I need to rummage up something that means "looks like inevitable entropy but actually is moving toward more order and meaning." Surely there's such a word? At any rate, I think it's an accurate description of the Way the World Is. "Entropy" doesn't have enough hope in it for me!
